To bad they gave not much more care/attention to this species. Although not threatened in the wild, white-bearded gnus would be a perfect animal for the many open range zoos in Australia (like Tarongas Sister Zoo in Dubbo). Along with zebras and giraffes, they represents that, what common (tv watching) visitors expect of an East African Savannah exhibit.
To be fair, I must say that also big sized zoos in Western Europe have missed to create a selfsustaining population of this species.
