Javan Rhino

C. t. taurinus or C. t. albojubatus?

Can anybody confirm what subspecies this is, like an idiot I photographed them sitting down and can't see any trace of the beard, don't know if there is any other way of telling them apart.

I think they're C. t. albojubatus.

At first glance I'd agree. White-bearded are generally paler over most of the body, in my experience.

Thanks for the ID's Maguari, another species I can add to my mammal list in the hope I can kick it up to 400 photographed by the end of 2012 :p.

Also of note is that there is a calf hidden in the grass. I thought the C. t. taurinus also looked stockier, but that could just be the photographs I've seen on zootierliste.

You are quite correct, they are white bearded wilbebeest. In your photo there are the three females they have and the little one, a male (called Wiggins).
Did you see the male wildebeest? - very easy to recognise as he has had his horns cropped off a bit. Until the last six months or so they also kept a lone male blue wildebeest (aka brindled gnu). He used to live in the section where the bongos, female nilgai and axis deer and company live.
