1. Sex of calf - male
2. No more born to this date, if pregnant its early stages and not showing in the background is the bull of the herd. Hecame from Boras Zoo, Sweden
Thankyou Pootle.
I hope the other cows are not all too old to breed, another couple of calves would be welcome.
I thought that was the bull on the left- he's more massive, though half the average age of the females.
He is a very big bull. I can’t say I have seen loads of male Cape Buffalo in the flesh sadly but from the ones I have seen and from talking to keepers they says he is a big boy! Occasionally there is a keeper in a van who follows the herd around regularly and keeps him from getting near to the roads side where the publics cars go by. One bump from him into car would cause some damage! A few times I have seen him cover the females so he is up for it, however as many of us know the females are ageing cows now. Maybe the cow who gave birth to the young male will successfully breed again.
I was at Knowlsey on 2nd March this year for the first time and the first thing I encountered was a traffic jam as the bull was challenging one of the visitor cars. The keepers truck came along and eventually moved him on but he didn't go quietly and kept challenging the keepers truck. Took a while for everyone to get past him.
