Taronga Zoo 2007 - Male hybrid Orangutan looks over his territory

Funny angle. This picture makes it look like they can swing right onto the sky bucket ride behind them. (At least I assume that is what the tower with rollers is).

I would not be too surprised if this very intelligent ape had thought about it :) The famous Ken Allen at the San Diego Zoo would probably have managed to; his several escapes always amazed the zoo staff, he managed to out-think them time and time again.

It looks close but it's not, it's just the angle. The tower is about 30 metres away, and the roller part is about 10 metres higher than the top of Jantan's platform.

We didn't see any Orang utangs at the zoo when we went. In fact we were very disappointed that a lot of animals we were hoping to see were hiding. Especially the Fiordland penguin who was moulting. I didn't think it was worth the $44 entrance fee.

the orangutans are off display due renovations they should be back in a few months and for the fiordland penguins there is only one and your never really see him. :)

Thanks Chlidonias. Does Toronga now house pure Sumatrans, pure Borneans, hybrids or a mix of all three?

I'm not entirely sure (Hix would know better than me), but I think they still just have the two orangutans (Jantan and Willow) who are both hybrids.
