Macaroni penguin (Eudyptes chrysolophus) at Living Coasts - January 30th 20

A species which has rather rapidly disappeared from European collections, seeing these at Living Coasts has allowed me to complete the set of penguin species visible in the UK - although Chinstrap and Adelie are found in limited numbers elsewhere in Europe.

I didn't realise they were that rare, I remember seeing them at Twycross loads of times. They are far more attractive than Humboldt and African penguins which seem to be the standard nowadays!

Zootierliste only lists them for Antwerp and Selwo Marina (Malaga) besides Living Coasts. Very thin on the ground these days.

What happened to London? When did their ones go?
I never thought that these would be a rarity that I'd be able to brag about! :D

Thanks for that, I remember reading it now. It was nearly a year ago and the old grey matter hasn't been functioning too well lately! :D

They are a very attractive species, much more active and curious in my opinion than their close cousins the Rockhopper Penguins.
