I remember that particular aviary, next to the meerkats, from when I done work experience with the zoo's bird division back in 2000. Was crowded with NG Ground doves, Nicobar pigeons and a lone kiwi, unsure of the exact species of kiwi however.

I am not sure if Taronga has ever had kiwi or certainly within the last two decades, but it would be cool if they did. Maybe you or thinking of a different zoo?
Taronga had a pair of Kiwi in the large "End Enclosure" of the Nocturnal House back in the 70's, I'm not aware of them having held Kiwi anytime since then.
they were North Island brown kiwi. The zoo had a pair, bred them (twice?) but lost all the birds from a mystery (?) illness in the mid-90s/late-90s (?) [or I guess 2000 if that's when Lyrebird was working there].
Lots of question marks in there I know but just going from memories which are a bit vague....
