If my memory serves me well, this individual, according to the sign, was a male Asian Elephant, formerly kept at Belle Vue Zoo

Is this the skeleton of “Maharajah”, the subject of David Barnaby’s book “The Elephant Who Walked to Manchester” ?

I visited today and can confirm that it is, there were a few bits from Belle Vue Zoo in a room dedicated to Manchester's local history.

Many thanks for confirming this is, indeed, "Maharajah".

It must be about twenty years since I was last in this museum; I must visit again.

I certainly thought it was worth a visit when I was in the area - I'm about to upload some pictures.

They are renovating the birds and insects area so a whole section is empty - don't know if the stuff was things on-show in other galleries, but I don't recall seeing the kakapo from pictures on here.
