Capybara and Greater Rhea enclosure at Marwell Zoo, 7 March 2009

The fencing at many of the exhibits at Marwell Zoo is quite basic, but I love the sheer size of this South American paddock. There is a lot of space for the rheas and capybaras to utilize, although the rodents would probably appreciate a much larger pond.

The pond is actually quite large, but the camera spacing and the churned water makes it seem smaller than it actually is.

The young capybaras (in one of my other photos in the gallery) were certainly enjoying this pond, as they were swimming and playfighting in it for ages. The paddock is a great expanse for them and there is also a further outdoor area which you can just see in this photo behind a Rhea.
