If this is Marwell, this would be Indus, meaning the picture would've been taken in '96 at the latest. But it does seem too good a quality for then, and pictures of the old boy back then show he had a bigger, darker mane: Sure this is Marwell?
The first Asiatic Lions to arrive at Marwell were a pair from Berlin, who were later joined by an elderly pair from Jersey; when these arrived, it made Marwell the only UK collection with Asiatics for several years. It was planned to breed from the young pair, but it was put on hold when it was found they were unpure, and subsequentley they never did breed. It was down to just two in the 90's, and then the male Indus died in 1996, leaving Tara the lioness on her own until she died of Liver Failure in October 2001. African Lions have been planned to feature within an enclosure in the African Valley in the future, though I'm not sure what the status of this is at the moment.
