I'm glad to see that the more than 30 year-old chimp exhibit is still going strong (even with all of the recent developments), but how many apes are in each group now? Will there be any mixing at all or is there now two distinct troops at the zoo?

There is currently the single troop of 17 animals, made up of a few clans/families.

Unfortunately, I don't know. Didn't get to chat to anyone when I was there.

So I visited Taronga during the week and thought I'd post a few comments on some of the things that got my attention rather than a whole review.

This addition to the chimpanzee exhibit is new since my last visit and, in my opinion, is a very welcome development. I really helps to make the exhibit more interactive and allows for more up close views. Does anyone have a more recent figure for the number of individuals that live here?

There are currently 7.10 chimps at Taronga:

Males: Lubutu, Shabani, Samaki, Furahi, Shikamoo, Sule, Fumo

Females: Spitter, Sacha, Shiba, Sembe, Shona, Lisa, Lani, Koko, Kamili, Kuma

Koko and Kamili (mother and daughter) are currently separated from the others as they are pregnant and Shiba has killed Kamili's last few babies.
