No, they haven't ever been allowed onto the grass paddock A keeper told me that they were thinking of putting a fence across the paddock so that the wildebeest could have one end and the Chapman's zebras could have the other end.
They are a grassland/grazing species so to deliberately import them and then keep them fulltime in a sanded yard is pretty ridiculous really. They should talk to Newquay...
i sore these animals in the wild and like you said Pertinax they need to graze it cant be good for there feet cause thta hard stand constantley weres there feet down
Well actually I think this one has been sanded to prevent that. But it doesn't solve the 'no grazing' issue. Here's a new grouse for me, to go with the 'no climbing equipment' for the Siamangs here.
I agree, they charge about wildly in the wild and they cannot do that in here either. I think Marwell imported these and then weren't sure about mixing them with zebras, so have kept them in their hardstanding ever since. Poor decision making. If they want to split the paddock, why not get on and do it instead of 'thinking about it' - as they've already been shut in here over a year now. As I said, Newquay, who imported a pair at the same time, have theirs out on grass now.(see Newquay Gallery)
i think they should go in the out of africa exhibit where they wil be much happier. it might sound a bit to big but at least they can career around and graze to there hearts content
