My wife and I spent a week in Sydney in 2007, and it is an expensive yet amazingly spectacular city. The Taronga Zoo is often cited as having the best view of any zoological park, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge can be seen in the background. We actually went on a tour where you can hike up to the very peak of the bridge in what appear to be astronaut suits, and the view from up there is magnificent.
Indeed it is expensive, I only stayed long enough in the city to be able to spend two days at Taronga Zoo; one going over to Manly for the Oceanarium; one wandering around Circular Quay where the Sydney Aquarium and Sydney Wildlife World are; and finally one jumping between various other attractions. In the end a city is a city and in Sydney you don't find what I came all the way to Australia for.
As to zoos with great view, another one I can think of is Prague Zoo, and I also hear that the Santa Barbara Zoo in California has amazing view, although I have never been there.

I agree the views of Sydney from Taronga Zoo are superb. Another one with great views (this time of Romney Marsh and the English Channel) is Port Lympne in the UK.
