Old meerkat enclosure at Marwell Wildlife, 27 February 2011

This is why the meerkats were moved to another enclosure
Is this now empty? From when it was built (late 80s?), housing originally - I think - meerkats, skunks and dwarf mongooses, I've thought this was a horrid little construction. It's always seemed so out of place at Marwell, and its construction seemed to trigger the decline of the wonderful pure Marwell of old. Just a sort of a carbuncle slapped down, without any thought of how it would blend in with anything around it. And perfect for people to lean over, drop things in, bother the animals - and get bitten too. Really poor design. If it has been decommissioned, then that is tremendous.

It has indeed; soon it will be demolished, and they plan on building a new enclosure elsewhere in the park.
