I knew there was something odd about this photo- they are out on grass! ( I was aware of this but this is the first photo I have seen)

Tim- is there just the pair again currently? Does that mean this is where Trotters/Lake District Wildlife sourced their replacement animal from?

I was pleased to see these animals out in a large paddock for the first time; they were in the enclosure next to the Somali wild ass. (On all the other occasions I've seen them at Marwell they’ve been on the hardstand adjacent to the Chapman’s zebra enclosure.)

I only saw these two white-tailed gnus on my recent visit which tallies with the latest Marwell Animal Inventory; this records that there were just a pair as at 31st December 2012. It seems a very reasonable assumption that the youngster was sent to Trotters but I don’t know for certain.

Would be a great pic if not for the fence in the background.

Unfortunately it was impossible to lose this fence........

Great picture I'm becoming more enamoured with Ungulates as the years go buy, may be a new species for my one day lottery win zoo;)

It does, however not much you could have done about that, plus the chances of getting the same shot later without the fence in the background are slim.

I find Marwell fences do get in the way a bit, not as bad as Howletts mind you, some of theirs are stockade style, unless things have changed of late.

All zoos should send a representative to Singapore Zoo to see how enclosures should be done.

you mean small? If I had to choose I'd rather see big enclosures with obvious fences than little platforms with stage dressing around them to try and disguise how small they are.
