Do you know why they stopped using this enclosure for red panda? I always felt having a car park for the education centre situated directly behind this, and the snow leopard exhibit was a bad idea, and wondered whether the air quality affected the red pandas here?

The original idea for the enclosure was to tie in with the "Himalayan exhibit area", in addition it was to contain surplus animals, the curator at the time was also involved in the Red Panda studbook/EEP , the other Red Panda enclosure was always the main exhibit for them, this one was just an extra.
When there were no spare Pandas to house there it was used to house Cusimanse temporarily (which did not work) and then it remained empty for a long time, it became overgrown and was eventually roped off to the public due partly to the need for privacy when the Snow Leopards produced cubs.
Then the tree was taken down and that was that.

The tree was not taken down, it is still there.

If you look at my photo you can you see that the top has gone!? That is what I mean.
Yes the bottom stump is still there, but it is not the same as a full tree, obviously (well obvious to me anyway!).
