I think this is the largest of the tenrecs - roughly the size of a rabbit. It can weigh over a kilo. The species is really remarkable for its litter size, often over 20! Females have 17 pairs of nipples (you can see I have done my research). All Paignton's specimens are males.
This thread made me realize that I know virtually nothing about tenrecs. I always thought of them as little hedgehogish type critters that lived in Madagascar.
