Nice picture from one of mine favorite glossy starlings ! I've taken care - and was part of the breeding - of this species at Walsrode Birdpark.
Because it's quite rare - not only in captivity but also in the wild - I'm intrested to know howmany birds there re at Paignton and do you know if they have been bred there ?

Excellent photograph. I bought an Emerald Starling for £20 about ten years ago and it escaped two days later by shooting behind me as I entered the aviary, landing on the wire and then dropping down through the door. I was left cursing myself for allowing it to happen and for letting down the bird.

I don't know exactly, but I saw a group with at least one young bird. They do not appear in the 2011 inventory, which is the latest one published. Perhaps one of our Paignton regulars knows more than I do.

they bred them at Paignton in 2010 -- see here: http://www.paigntonzoo.org.uk/userfiles/WWCT Annual Review & Accounts 2010-11.pdf)

...and they had them in 2009 as well -- see here: [ame="http://www.flickr.com/photos/36917655@N08/3551653585/"]Emerald Starling | Flickr - Photo Sharing![/ame]
