West Caucasian tur

Sheep paddock, Paignton. 16th February 2014.
In some ways this is a splendid enclosure, but it looks really untidy at the moment - which really shows up in my photos.

This may be a stupid question but where in the zoo is this? Is it by the Barbary sheep or possibly the takins/camels? Or somewhere else entirely?

This is the Barbary sheep paddock - the sheep were on the hardstanding in front of the house. The tur have the left hand bay of the house and an adjoining fenced area beside the main paddock.
I assume that the animals have access to the paddock on alternate days, so I was pleased to see the tur in the main paddock as I forget to go and see them on my previous visit to Paignton.

I was sure that was the place but in your other photo you call it the goat paddock, if I recall correctly there used to be dwarf goats where the takin are now!
Hopefully the tur will get a similar enclosure to Barbary sheep in time, that quarry is kind of big! ;)

I stand corrected. But it seems hard on the sheep; they looked a bit uneasy on Sunday.

Alan

Maybe we're both going on the wrong days! I agree, and they've always appeared to be shy of visitors, who are now even closer.

PS I had a look this morning and the turs were out in the enclosure again.
