The Goeldi's Monkeys have now moved into the former Swamp Monkey house. Here is the revamped island - the house is to the right, the Gorilla island to the left.

So this is the end product of those mysterious 'workings' earlier in the year? It looks okay for 'tinies' but its a shame IMO they no longer have(on show at least) the Swamp Monkeys. The writing was on the wall a long time ago though as they seem to just be one of those difficult species in captivity, at least as far as breeding goes.

Yes, the finished product is revealed. The inside of the house has been made more suitable for small monkeys too. As for the Swamp Monkeys, the last I heard they were awaiting a trip across the Atlantic, where hopefully they will have more success.

The little house attatched to this was really only suitable for tinies- even the Swampies looked a bit oversized in it. But does looking at the Goeldi's monkeys outdoors from a considerably distance over a watermoat work okay?

So for Zoochatters indulging in the old World primate competition- there's still an outside chance they could get the last Swamp Monkeys in the UK at Paignton before they leave- if they knew where to look...;)

I haven't seen them outside yet. I think they were trying to build up their courage the other day - their outdoor area in the Small Mammal house was much more enclosed. They could well be hard to spot!

Yes little Monkeys like them would naturally be afraid of Predators in the wild e.g. Eagles and big Hawks- and so tend to shun open spaces, even if there aren't any avian predators in Devon the monkeys still have the same natural behaviours. Hopefully they'll overcome their fears soon.

An infant Goeldi's would probably be easy picking for a Brixham Bomber

(Gull!)

I'd forgotten about the SeaGulls- Marmoset-sized monkeys would probably be terrified of them- at least at first.
