Duivenbodes lories

Pair enjoying apple, Parrot Aviaries, Paignton. 24th November 2014
Another lovely photograph - you must have a very impressive lens to get a close-up like this considering the distance of the aviary mesh from the stand-off barrier (the technical data below the photograph is all beyond me). This is one of my favourite brush-tongued species.

I'm glad you like this one. Duivenbode's are favourites of mine too. This pair got excited as feeding time approached and the male (I presume) started to display by facing the female, calling loudly (of course) and jumping sideways by about 80 cm on a horizontal perch, going alternately to left and right and showing all the yellow and blue in his plumage.
My big 500mm lens gives 15x magnification on my camera, which is handy in some circumstances ;)

I've written it before but this is also one of my favorite Lory-species and when displaying they are real gems !
