My neighbour claimed to have seen a barn owl sitting on our fence a couple years ago, and I have heard a Southern Boobook on my street. I have never seen any though.
Oh, once when I was living in the Caribbean a few years ago, a little brown owl of some sort flew into the house I was staying in. I remember covering it with a laundry basket to calm it down before releasing it. Owls are persecuted there for being evil, by the way . Silly people.
