"I remember when this was all trees"

If I remember correctly, it was Heini Hediger himself who recommended that childrens' play areas should be visible to apes, so that they have something interesting to watch - this new play area looks much more interesting than the previous playground equipment.

At the moment, the gorillas are enjoying watching it go up, and some associated tarmacking. The orangs seem more interested in finding something to eat.

Funny how things catch on - play area, playground? I overheard a child today asking 'can we go and play in the new area?'
