Mistakes

This is the guidebook of Port Lympne Wild Animal Park.

See the enclosed photos which are from this guide (scientific name, or IUCN category, or mixed-up photos, etc.)

I know that is no easy task to edit a perfect guide, but I think this is too much mistake from such a famous and leading zoo like Port Lympne Wild Animal Park.
Sorry about that (in my computer I can read these clearly).

So:

According to Port Lympne WAP’s Guide:

1. Prionailurus rubiginosa philipsi
Prionailurus viverinus
2. Felis octocolobus manul
3. Margay, Panthera tigris altaica, and other short infos about Amur Tiger
4. Leopardis paradalis
5. Cerocebus galeritus chrysogaster
6. Black Howler (photo shows a Javan Langur)
7. Cercopithecus Diana
8.Papio (Mandrillus) leucophaeus
9. African Elephant, Status: Endangered
10. Equus grevyis
11. Kobus Leche Leche
12. Antelope cervicapra
13. Taurotragus (tragelaphus) Oryx
Connochaetes Taurinus
14. Pota mocherus porcus
15. Hog deer (photo shows a Pere David’s Deer)
16. Giraffe, Status: Critically Endangered

And I am not sure what they mean under Wild Cattle category (taxon Bovidae or Bovinae).

I do not think these are all the mistakes …

@ Hix: I thought You intentionally wrote Orcteropus in order to call my attention that these are not serious mistakes …

I think giraffe isn't a mistake, given they do keep the CE Rothschilds.

And I am not sure what they mean under Wild Cattle category (taxon Bovidae or Bovinae).

The Wildebeest seem to be listed under 'Wild cattle' or at least that is how it looks.

The reason I'm not too surprised at these errors is that historically these were private collections which were opened to the visiting public under duress (for the revenue they created) so there has never really been any educational infrastructure here as at other places which were developed for people to visit.

That's a pretty bad mistake about the Margay. I found they had a few of the wrong pics, although in my Chester guide book they have info on warty pigs with a pic of a Warthog

Yeah, and under the photo You can read this: Sus Cebifrons

… and some more mistakes in Chester Zoo’s Guide:

Rhinoceros Unicornis
Lemur Catla
Foudia ruba
Okapi johnstoni
Varanus komodoenesis
Bitis gabonica rhinocerous

Tigers: five living subspecies … the Sumatran Tiger is the most threatened of all the Tigers.

….

I know, I am too strict … ;)

And if I remember rightly, there's a picture of a Grant's Zebra labelled as a Grevy's in Chester's latest as well.

I don't think that saying the Sumatran tiger is the "most threatened" tiger is a terrible mistake considering currently one a week is poached in the wild, meaning that they are likely to be EW in as little as three years, and the Sumatran government seem to be quite happy for them to become extinct.

The status of the Sumatran Tiger is really disquieting indeed. I meant in comparison with the South Chinese Tiger. According to the IUCN Red List there is no viable wild populations remain, and the Government of China agrees that there is no confirmed presence … but the subspecies is still ’only’ CE as well.

Have you Emailed them to let them know about the mistakes would be good to know what they say about it very bad to have so many in one book. a few years back they had a mistake with a couple of pictures mixed up the axis deer and hog deer (something about hog deer they dont like lol)
