I have to say, Howletts and Port Lympne have often not included Asian deer species on their ISIS listings over the years, perhaps the main herd is still at one of the parks, albeit in smaller numbers, and the branderi maybe represent a newer import found later to be a distinct subspecies from the originals, hence being kept separately, or am I being optimistic?

I did enquire and heard nothing. Its one of those riddles that will probably remain unsolved unless one can talk to a hoofedstock keeper(or curator) on that section.
