Yes, That male has been castrated, and now has no mane as a result.
According to the facebook page, Milo is sharing with his sister and has now stopped pacing. They are bringing a female in from madrid in september for him.

I guess the sister must be implanted to prevent breeding.
I believe there is one zoo in Spain- is it Madrid? that has 'Barbary' Lions that haven't been tested for purity but because they have come from a long unbroken breeding line in the Zoo, could still be more genuine than those which have originated from Rabat Zoo in Morocco more recently.-

Yes Milo is sharing sharing the enclosure with his older sister at the moment and has stopped pacing. A new lioness is due to come in September from Madrid as a mate for him with the hope that they will breed.
Interesting that they have moved an 'older' sister in with him-presumbly its Samira the crippled female who was living alone?
Madrid is listed as a 'Barbary' Zoo so I guess the new female will be suitable. But I heard they castrated Milo's father because they didn't want any more breeding from this genetic line- and of course Milo is the same line.. So maybe the 'breeding' statement is just for publicity, or on the other hand, it could be fact.

I just think its a bit strange, castrating the father(not that long ago either) to prevent more breeding, but now saying they want to breed from the son. But if they didn't intend to breed, as you said, they probably wouldn't bother importing a new female.
I suppose bringing in an unrelated female from Madrid will provide them with new blood in the Port Lympne animals- but who really wants any more of these Lions anyway?
