They have never bred these.:( Its pity they can't add a couple more animals to give a better chance for breeding.

The male was very old when I was last at PL two years ago. I wonder if he is still alive.

I would like to see a bigger group of these at PL, I hope a plan is to import more. I'd check ISIS but it's obviously being changed of to Zims. Lovely photo by the way Alan. :)

I was told by someone with knowledge of the American studbook that golden-bellied mangabeys are being eliminated from AZA zoos because the population cannot sustain itself. It sounds like this is the case in Europe also perhaps?

I think he was already geriatric when he arrived!:) When I went in May he didn't come outside and you can only see shapes through the windows but I am pretty sure it was him sitting indoors when the female was outside.

Perhaps an example of a species where all the remainder should be 'pooled' at one location- either in US or Europe, to try a last ditch effort at improved breeding?

They did have a chance to bring in 1.3 from Wuppertal, but Port Lympne kept moving the goal posts on what tested were needed, for them to be transferred to the UK,as a result the move folded and the 1.4 animals remained being held off-show at Wuppertal!

Other than White-collared and Cherry-capped, do other posters think there's much realistic chance of mangabeys being on exhibit in Europe in 15-20 years' time?

That is strange indeed. :( It indicates PL didn't want them that badly or they would have ensured they got them somehow. I do sometimes wonder how committed PL are to breeding with some of their 'minor' species like this.
