Unfortunately, the only Hyena on show is the male at the beginning of the Safari Drive, but as Baldur has already said, the vehicle drives past with barely a mention of it. Certainly NOT the chance for a photo opportunity!
This shot was taken down at the enclosure opposite the Water Buffalo paddock, which is currently off-show.
Due to a happy & fortunate set of circumstances, my wife & I were shown the Hyenas by the animal director, who very patiently and openly answered our questions, and let me get right up to the chain link fencing to get a series of fantastic shots.
even when you could go round on foot, when i was there, you were unlikely to see them anyway. the enclosure is thickly vegitated and very natural and i didn't see a glimce of a hyena

yeah I recall the enclosure was not the best in the world for viewing when I went in 2009, It's a shame as Hyena's are one of my favourite animals to see and photograph.
Berlin on the other other hand was superb for a Hyena nut, I'm thinking of going to Prague in 2012.
Wow! Thanks very much indeed, Pertinax! I'm quite touched by that comment, especially as there are a LOT of excellent photos on Zoochat! I think that the photos of Gentle Lemur, particularly, are some of the best on the site.
Such a shame, I would love 2 see them again, I remember seeing them a year or 2 ago, but now the coach doesn't stop, the driver drove straight past the cheetah exhibit!
As Sooty Mangabey says, there is a very attractive Brown Hyena display in Berlin Tierpark. When I visited in April 2014 they were displaying all 4 hyaenid species.
I invariably had a good viewing every time I visited Port Lympne. The first time in the 1980's I was forlornly looking into an apparently empty, overgrown enclosure, like every other visitor, and thinking I would have a no-show, when I unwrapped a Mars bar. The rustling of the wrapper immediately drew the desired animal from the undergrowth!
