Fair call. And the dark substrate might also have been warmed by the sun's rays thereby warming the dog on both sides.

And maybe the hotwires aren't as obtrusive as they appear - it could just be the angle of the photo.

Which is why I bit my tongue.

But it does need more vegetation, from what I can see.

Importantly (possibly because they came from tame-stock kept as pets outside the EU?) they recieve daily human interaction and play sessions, which will make the size and contents of the enclosure less important. They will be calmer and properly stimulated animals as a result IMO.
