The new Pallas Cat enclosure is next to the Snow Leopard enclosure (somewhere between this one and the Sun Bear exhibit). This is currently off-show due to being under reconstruction.
As a former keeper, it would have taken about 5 hours and £30 to have made this enclosure more acceptable for this species. Shelves, branch cuttings, a wooden box fixed high up in the cage.
I hope johnstonis advice is taken on board by the owner of this centre, and indeed as was mentioned by someone else commenting on this photograph Roma wasnt built in a day. I have to say that this enclosure isnt the best one ive seen for fishing cats and i do hope a better enclosure is built in the future for this species.
These have a new cage being built, not sure if they've moved in yet but it was a bit bigger, although I agree with Al, this cage is actually a heck of a lot bigger than it looks in this picture. It was also shielded off to give the cats privacy.

Does it really matter how big the cage is if it is for breeding purposes. Not saying that breeding cages have to be small but if the animal is happy with food, water, and shelter does it mean that it has to have a giant cage with a giant waterfall and lush tropical rainforest. I think it would be nice to see that but would the animal really care as long as it is cared for properly.

Nice to see a bit of common sense coming from over the pond for a change about this place,it may not be to everyones taste but the place does try really hard to provide the best it can for its animals in a very small site.
