Not again!!!! 12th July 2014

These boards which looked so good when they were put in place keep getting knocked off, presumably by visitors (children?) viewing the Degus. Plan B is to replace them with more robust boarding.

I see now, yes I can imagine little fingers pulling and loosening while mummy and daddy are watching the degus.
I wonder are they are nailed or screwed on? screws are abetter option having a larger head and not so easily pulled out. Of course they could always cover each door with apiece of weld mesh cut to size too, this may distract from the wood effect, but it would secure the front at least.

I can see how it happens now- small children trying to climb up to look in the window. They need a permanent remedy, such as Dean suggests. Constantly replacing a board won't work.

There is weld mesh underneath the boards! The bottom was constructed as a cage but was not suitable. The boards are there to give it a better appearance and to make it a dry storage area. I am hoping thicker boards will do the trick.

Or place something infront of the window where the childern can stand on? Couple of arge rocks, a tree log perhaps?

A couple of cut logs like the Goats have to climb on, would do it, but it would create a Health & Safety issue as people could trip and fall over them too.:(

And they would need moving in order to open the storage area. The Senior Assistant Keeper and I were discussing the boards this afternoon and it does look as though Plan B will be given a whirl.
