In the walk-through aviary, 22nd August 2014

The Senior Assistant Keeper and I had gone down to the walk-through and I mentioned Pertinax had requested a photo of the now grown Mandarin ducklings. As neither of us had any idea which specimens they may be I took this photo of the birds immediately in front of us!

Well I've enjoyed looking at it anyhow.;) Not sure if those 'ducklings' are in this picture or not but I can see eclipse drakes of both Mandarin and Carolina, plus several other Mandarins- either female or juvenile ones and including at least one full-winged one in the foreground.

I think we proved beyond doubt they were young Mandarins hatched and reared by a Carolina female though.
