I do fear for the wellbeing of any ducklings, goslings or peafowl chicks that get in that paddock. London's Timor Deer were regularly given dead day-old chicks, and some animals that went to Marwell in its early days were known to kill any ducklings that got into their enclosure.
Like many of the ungulates held at London Zoo and Whipsnade during the 1980s, the Timor deer were jointly owned and jointly managed by the ZSL and Marwell.
Surprisingly many other Deer species will eat meat, usually carrion such as dead birds they may come across whilst grazing I presume.
Though I am not so sure whether deer actually require animal protein in their diet for their nutritional benefit ?
