Looks like our guess was right then,amazing that until this year I had never seen one,and now have seen them in 3 different collections in the UK so far this year!
I imagine American 'Red' squirrel is actually a relative of the Grey? The head is very Grey squirrel-like and without the black bar it could be mistaken for same.
I don't agree with that at all! Having lived with these guys (The gray squirrels) I wouldn't mistake them due to the fact that the grays are bigger, the tails are thicker(Could just be this individual. IDK), and they are completely gray while this is gray towards the front and towards the back is red.

The American Red Squirrel is no closer to the Eastern Grey Squirrel than it is the European Red Squirrel, as the latter two taxa are both classified within the genus Sciurus whilst the former taxon is classified within the sister genus Tamiasciurus, the full taxonomic name for the species being Tamiasciurus hudsonicus.
