This was indeed the 'walk-in' Rodrigues Fruit Bat exhibit previously.
 
I thought this was quite an exceptional enclosure for fruit bats, what a shame it didn't work out. Where are the bats now, in the vulture flight?

Does anyone know why the bats were removed from this enclosure?

Given that we are talking about South Lakes , the concept of an enclosure that was actually working out would not have tied in with their husbandry philosophy.The new random selection of fauna tossed in here to see how things work out is more like South Lakes.We can only be thankful that they did not opt for a water buffalo and baboon mix.
