Big cat enclosures at South Lakes WAP 26/11/11

It is rotated between a pair of jaguars and an elderly amur tiger.
Strewth- this is really poor. Muddy, collapsed climbing platform. Are all their enclosures like this?

A lot of the enclosures are pretty bare. The nearest big cat enclosure (Home to an elderly Amur tiger and pair of jaguars.) has a pool and a new platform. There is nowhere were they can hide/get away from the public, however the enclosure behind home to Sumatran tigers is a lot denser than the other enclosure again with a pool and climbing platform. The Sumatran's have a lot of plants in the enclosure especially bamboo.

David Gill has said that once the masterplan starts coming together that the Sumatran's will have a new enclosure and the jaguars (The tigeress would probably have died) will have there current enclosure plus the Sumatran tiger's. (David Gill has said a lot of things so don't believe every word he says because half the time it isn't true;)).

I always get the feeling this collection is struggling to maintain its standards, resulting in a lot of substandard exhibits, as if they can't cope overall with all the animals they have. I am very surprised he still gets a license and that Zoo Inspectors are not more concerned about the general conditions here.

Me too, I have been concerned about this establishment for some time and am surprised that action has not been taken. Are there concrete complaints that could be made? pehaps someone who has been there in person could voice these concerns to the appropriate authorities.
