Indoor cat area at South Lakes WAP 26/11/11

Sorry about the quality the windows were scratched. This is Nina the elderly Amur tiger.
Doesn't anyone clean the walls? How about a sleeping bench or platform to allow her off the ground?

Seems like very low standards here.

I was at first surprised to see that an indoor area such as this one would be available to be seen by the general public, but then I remembered that the rest of the zoo is just as shabby. Does South Lakes still have a shambles of an enclosure with spectacled bears, otters, monkeys and a bunch of wooden beams pointing upwards?

AFAIK yes, it does, it is the same one as the photo labelled 'Bears of the Andes' which I commented on below. I have heard one or two other people comment on the filthy state of some indoor enclosures here too.

Yes it does still have that wonderfull mixed exhibit, and yes the place looked very shabby yesterday when I visited for the first time in a few years, that said it was very wet and muddy so all I can say on that is note to self visit in the summer when its only the park and not the weather making the place look grim!!

If Born Free look in the Zoochat photogalleries too, for some of their 'evidence' to take to Europe, then I expect they will have picked out a picture like this as fuel for their arguments.

What would it cost to put in a raised bed with straw on it? Couple of hundred quid if that. No wonder Mr Gill and/or Yorik are worried about the Born Free Foundation. If the BFF see these pics them they will definitely be on their case. If the zoo is up to scratch they surely have nothing to worry about!
