Do the hippos actually have a real pool?

Yes there was a pool at the other end of the enclosure, but it was empty.

This paddock is too heavily used- there is no grass and bare earth showing everywhere. A very bad advert for the way a zoo displays its animals.

They have been together as a mixed exhibit for quite a long time now- I don't know exactly how many years though.

the exhibit looks quite ugly but i somehow like the idea of Mandrill and Hippo together. Very Cool.

You may like it but do the animals? There is no grass for the hippos to graze (cows kept like this would maybe get a visit from the RSPCA) and they seem to spend a lot of time yawning threats at the Mandrills.

I can't imagine the mandrills would ever leave the hippos alone either. They're now in a better exhibit by the entrance, although the house for hippos has no pool, brilliant design

That is not good either. Again I'm surprised this is allowed on animal welfare grounds.
