I assume these were pre-existing buildings that were converted for the new zoo? There is something very comforting and charming about the look of small English villages like this - makes me want to return already. (Secret confession - there are times I think about moving to a picturesque village in England).

You enjoy the sunshine and to go from blazing hot Tucson, Arizona, to the drizzly English countryside might be too much for your liking. What about a small French town near Le Parc des Felins?:)

True, I am a complete wimp when it comes to the cold and do love the heat. Everyone else here in Tucson complains about how hot it is in summer and how they can not wait until summer is over, but I am one of the only people I know who actually likes summer in Tucson. And trust me, I have thought about the Parc Felins thing as well. Maybe I could get a job at Disney Paris, which is not far at all...

Yes, I think they are old farm buildings which have scrubbed up nicely and are well fit for their new purposes. I am encouraged that the Bristol Zoo team have made a real effort to start this new park in an attractive and appropriate way.
One or two British zoos have very attractive small towns or villages nearby. Slimbridge village is nice and the village of Bourton on the Water (Birdland) is almost too pretty, but my favourite is the town of Burford, a few miles north of the Cotswold Wildlife Park.

Bourton is the classic Cotswold picture postcard village, with the stream running alongside the road etc. Burford is more a town as you say, but runs Bourton a close second. Note to foreign would be movers-in; House prices match the pretty locations!

Bristol's country estate- 'Hollywood Towers' as in this photo, is very close to the M5 motorway, I guess there is a constant background drone of traffic.

I am quite fond of Hythe, which is where I stay when I visit Port Lympne. In fact, if I glance up from my computer, I have a large photo straight ahead in my window of a narrow street of Hythe at dusk. :)

There are just about enough mature trees along the edge of the estate to deaden the traffic noise, although you can see the tops of the motorway lights above them.

Hythe has the great asset of not possessing a mainline railway station. This has kept the DWP element out (hate to write this but it's true) and enough local trade in because if they want to have a drink they need to stay nearby.

I really do feel encouraged by the potential Hollywood Towers possesses. I just hope someone will decide to get rid of the stupid name bestowed upon it!
