This is a young male so I think his 'skinny' (if you will) looks is normal. He and his two girlfriends seemed well taken care of. With all the opposition against circus animals in Australia, Lennon Bros wouldn't take the risk of not feeding their lions properly or maltreating them the slightest. They are the star attraction and any such maltreatment could end up in the media, with the result that the lion act would have to be ceased.

The circus manager told me that the lions are used to human contact and staff members go in with them; not just their trainer, Steve, but also a few other members of staff, so they can be with the trainer inside the cage during the show for security reasons. They couldn't do that if the lions were maltreated or not fed properly.

Good point. I should mention I'm no expert (and not being a fan of animals in a circus I might have just been trying to pick fault), he just looked a little skinny for a lion :).

He and his girlfriends looked really good, to my amateurish eyes. I'm not against lions in circuses as long as they are well taken care of.

Will the last poster do the rest of us the courtesy of reading previous posts please?

That poor animal is very underweight.

I think that the shadows off the fence appear to pervert the view of the lion, he does look sleek but I'm finding it difficult to gauge how big (or small) he actually is from this photo. He looks more filled out in another photo where he is away from the fence. Just my view but don't judge things from a single picture.
