I doubt you'll find any UK member who 'supports' the Twycross Ape exhibits. The Bonobo, Orangutan, Chimp and Gorilla exhibits are all pretty similar (mowed grass, few climbing facilities, crappy enrichment devices, few hiding places, poor indoor areas)
How on earth are such great ape exhibits still in use? Is there public pressure to renovate the enclosures? People will have more respect for the animals if they are kept in conditions that simulate their natural environment, and the Twycross exhibits are brutally outdated.
That photo is the original Gorilla enclosure- possibly the most unimaginative of its time in the UK. The amazing thing is when they built new enclosures for the gorillas they were virtually identical, with just an extra timber climbing frame or two. These ones are still in use - so's this one but now for a small group of chimps.
Twycross Ape accomdotion is generally unbelievably dated in appearance.
