Hylobates pileatus

One of my favourite species at Twycross- and one of the few(!) that they have done quite well with over the years.

Yeah defiantly. I know Twycross gets a lot of slack with breeding but when I went Twycross a few weeks ago there were a large number of gibbon offspring in most of the enclosures. On a completely random note, are the camels both a male and female and how come they have not mated? Also, I heard that the female giraffe was pregnant a while ago. Any news on that?

I don't know about the camels but zoogiraffe and myself spoke to a keeper on Sunday who confirmed the female giraffe is NOT pregnant.

Argh right that mustve just been a rumor I heard. Do you know of any other pregnencies in the zoo. I know that in the papers when Oumbie arrived it was said that one of the females was pregnant. is this true? Also, with the dholes are they all males or females/ a breeding group?

I think that the male dholes in the mixed sex group have either been castrated or vasectomised , they are certainly not a potential breeding group .

ISIS list Twycross as having 1.1, however am sure they brought in a young male to keep their old male company (or was this another collection?) I cannot find this thou.

Why is this? Is it because they would breed too much? Also, im sure Tywcross had more dholes than it does now. I think they used to have 8 or 10 at one point. were some moved?
