I wonder if the hyenas are staying here permenantly or going to move over to near the elephants as it does say about the upcoming development of asian carnivores section for lions, dholes and hyenas?????

I believe the sign says they will move to the new set of enclosures in the future!

Given that they haven`t applied for planning permission yet for the new complex I would say that they will be in the old Lion enclosure for some time.

It looks as if these new enclosures are slipping further back(or should it be forwards) in time now.

Most places favour 'hyena' - I tend to retain the (perhaps slightly archaic) extra 'a', thus 'hyaena'.

I don't know if one's more correct than the other but 'hyena' (like 'fetus' or 'sulfur') just looks wrong to my eyes!

I think Hyaena is the correct English spelling. The other examples you give are, I fear, 'Americanisms'- as is 'color' etc. Sometimes nowadays zoos also invite people to 'come see' their animals too. Same thing.:(

Me too, but on current form they seem to be building new enclosures despite existing ones still calling out for major renovation.
