Is this the male or female does anyone know? Also I am assuming there were once two and one has died? If so are there plans to get another cassowary or will they just reuse this enclosure for soemthing else once it has gone? Also the white naped cranes, where have they gone? The raven is in their enclosure now.

the way i understood the cassowary situation was that twycross just held any unwanted young birds in this enclosure as over the past few years, theyve had a few young birds which have then been moved to other collections

This cassowary has been at twycross for years though. Also, i am intrigued at the bird enclosures at what was the entrance to the borneon longhouse exhibit near the elephants. Do you know what is kept back there? There is a metal barrier so you cant go up there. Its where the allens swamp monkey used to be and the window is now fenced over. Do you know where I mean? I am just intrigued to what is in there.

Actually from the records I have this Cassowary arrived at Twycross during 2009.As for the area at the end of the Bornean Longhouse it was off-show breeding pens for Cranes and Housing for the female saddle-billed Stork, that the zoo no longer has I`m noy sure if any Crane species are still held down their now.As for the White-naped Cranes they could have returned to their owner.
