A true rainforest environment for the beautiful great apes that inhabit the exhibit. This would probably be one of the best gorilla enclosures in the world if it were the 1970's.
This is exactly what most of Twycross feels like. Just like someone told them the enclosures were good 30 years ago so they never bothered to update the designs...

Is this the Newer Enclosure?
If they put all the females and a new male in here they could transfer the climbing equipment in here and with long grass and it could be rather good.
This is just my personal opinion.

The self appointed title[possibly] of "The Primate Zoo" no longer washes in 2012,maybe in the 70's & 80's but it seems that Twycross are still stuck to that period.
Barely any thought,it seems, goes into primate enclosures here and this is a class example...I can imagine the conversation between the zoo & the "designer"..."Just build something that looks like the doctor's surgery down the road and just chuck a couple of climbing frames outside, that will be fine"
Off the top of my head,i can't think of a more dreadful/un-inspiring gorilla enclosure in the UK....sad.
Open plan Gorilla enclosures have their limitations in the UK generally, and in particular at Twycvross. It's set in a flat, pretty featureless part of the country (which means often windy) and I fear that the zoo's founders, in many ways highly remarkable women, never planted enough trees.
The net outcome is a setup where it's unusual to see the animals outside.
