View of Giraffe House

Any indications yet of what they will do here?
There was before a certain Director left, but anything could happen now she has gone,I certainly hope that the plan she came up,with doesn't happen as it will be a total waste of the building!!Didn't see any of the keeping staff that I know well,at the place other wise would have asked if the plans had changed!

If they could renovate/redo it into some Asian precinct usage (primate or hoofstock)? Perhaps a bull elephant facility? :)

The cow elephants look OK to me. Whether Twycross should keep on with the idea of a breeding group is a moot point.

Personally after the chimps I'd have said that the orangs had first claim on being re-housed, and the Giraffe House obviously has height.

Who knows what happens next?

They could model it on Jersey's indoor Orangutan accomodation which is very good as that too has great height. The interior of the building would lend itself to conversion into two exhibition/show dens plus the usual sleeping/offshow facilities. The exterior could be refurbished e.g. cladded with wood to give a softer or even an Asian feel. Outside I would prefer some sort of huge domed 'cage' rather than the usual grass/moated/ground based design, and with masses of modern climbing facilities, hanging straps a la Chester and it wouldn't need to take over the whole extent of the existing paddock, so some of that could be reclaimed.

Just an idea.....:)
