Green-mile/ New Amur Leopard Enclosure
Yeah, right.

This is truly disgraceful accommodation for leopards in this day and age.
At least they have a bigger area and height they can use, than the cats in the old cat enclosures at Edinburgh, and they still keep Jaguars in those and they are far bigger Cats than Leopards!

Given that most 'new' exhibits at Twycross at present seem to be of the 'make do and mend' variety, I can understand why they have done this. Do you have any idea where 'outdoor Langurs' is supposed to go?

I knew that would come up. The key word is "old". Nobody is saying that the cat enclosures at Edinburgh aren't without fault (although they do have more usable height than these), but they're from a bygone age.

There's no excuse for putting a leopard in a small cage that was never designed for it - at any time in it's history. A small cat species maybe, or a small primate, but leopards, no.

Have not heard anything yet,but when I do will post it on the forum!

Well this is an OLD ex-chimp cage, and given the current housing for the Leopards at Twycross, this is a 100% improvement on what they have, also its is as far as I'm concerned its 100% better being used as a Leopard enclosure, than it was for Chimps, and finally you have to remember at this time Twycross have bugger all funds,to do anything so everything has to be done very much on the cheap, and I think given that last fact they are making very good use of what, little funds they have to improve things within the zoo!!

and finally you have to remember at this time Twycross have bugger all funds,

I think that pretty aptly sums up all their recent developments!:D. I think, given this situation, that they are doing whatever they can to improve things, not ideal perhaps but I do have some sympathy with this- though not with how they got into this situation originally.

Looks like a very good, clever and cheap idea to be honest. Finally a decent idea coming out of Twycross.

Absolutely right. However Twycross got itself into a financial hole, it hasn't got the wherewithal to rip apart every structurally sound building to start again.

The UK economy generally is in a mess, and it would be wise for most places to emulate Bristol and Twycross and tailor their caps according to the cloth that can be afforded.

Are they intending to house one pair of leopards in the whole Green Mile? That gives a long run, at a guess nearly as much space as the snow leopards in the Himalaya exhibit. It may not be absolutely ideal, but I find that very hard to criticise.
