Looks like a couple of us were born too late to see amazing species like these :(

Ah, but you'll still be out zoo visiting when Zoogiraffe has long been confined in the County of Cheshire Home for Bewildered Zoo Enthusiasts, and he'll be the one missing out on the import of a dozen Hoolock Gibbons from a South-east Asian rescue centre. Swings and roundabouts! :D

Weren't the 'Hainan' gibbons at Twycross re-identified as being Tonkin Black Crested Gibbon, Nomascus concolor concolor? Certainly that was the case with their male, "Zombie".

I didn't realise you've not seen a beluga either. Sorry! Ps it was two commerson's jumping over a beluga, but it was a rather tacky show, you wouldn't have liked it :)

are there any hainan gibbon in captivity now?, i agree with javan rhino, wish twycross got some of it rareities back:(

No chance of getting these gibbons back in - there's 22 at the most left in the wild, consisting of 2 family groups and a few solitaries.

As far as I know, nobody dares, as it would most probably finish off the species.

There's a few places doing awareness projects, and their wild population is protected, so maybe in 70 years or so...
