In all of the photos of this new outdoor area there is obviously a lot of sand but also some greener sections as well. Do the giraffes just avoid the grassy central area because it is on a slight slope? Does anyone know the exact size of the paddock?
.
My guess would be they 'pace' along the longer lengths which tend to bypass the central area.
Re size of paddock- it has been discussed elsewhere. I've seen it (before completion) and thought it was adequate but quite small( photos distort and make enclosures look vast of course) Its not a lot larger(perhaps a third more) than the previous outdoor area and it goes to a point, like a spearhead, at one end. I wouldn't think they could canter more than a few yards. Overall impressions of Zoochatters of this house/enclosure are favourable though.
Well I thought it was more than adequate to get a good gallop on if they wanted. The only down side being that it does end at a sort of point so wouldn't be able to do any sort of "laps". More a "point to point" sort of affair.
Its a lot longer than Y.W.P. all weather paddock, and I have seen their Giraffes get a good head of steam up when the boys have been feeling playful.
I would say Twycross paddock is a good 150 yards long, maybe further. Anyone else going soon fancy pacing it out?
