Snowleopard: I do agree that it is pretty barren and planting some durable plants would make it an excellent exhibit in my opinion. however, the grass is quite long and the climbing frames look better in person than they do here. It's not a world beater, but it's surprisingly good for a zoo of Welsh Mountain's status. The indoor display area is pretty good as well
It's also worth noting that from the top of climbing frames the chimps not only have a view out over the zoo, but also the Irish Sea and fair old chunk of the North Wales coast due to the hilltop position of the zoo.
i think im correct in saying that when ever they plant vegetation the chimps simply rip it out again. toward the left of this photo the corner is cut off with electric wire and a fair amount of vegetation has been planted there, im guessing they will open it up once it has grown to a good length.
