Great Barrier Island February 2010

This Brown Teal, Anas chlorotis, was a very friendly individual, who spent a fair bit of time hanging around our kitchen cabin, where we could pat and feed it. Not that we did.

Brown Teals are an endangered endemic duck, with a population of around 2000, half of which are found on Great Barrier Island, and the rest in northern North Island. They are well represented in captivity.
